World Photography Day goes back to 1839, when a French artist named Louis Daguerre invented the daguerreotype-one of the very first ways to freeze a real image onto a metal plate.
Realizing how revolutionary this was, the French government bought the invention and generously gave it away to the world as a free gift.
Over 170 years later, an Australian photographer named Korske Ara had a brilliant idea: why not create a global holiday to celebrate the magic of taking pictures? He launched the official event on August 19, 2010, inviting people everywhere to share their unique view of life.
Today, millions of photographers around the globe unite every August 19th to honor the art and passion of capturing moments.
I’ve been interested in photography for 16 years and have gone through a few cameras along the way. I started with Canon, but I’m now on my third Nikon. Last year, I bought myself the D850—which had been my dream camera for almost 10 years! Here are a few photos I’ve taken with all my cameras over the years. I hope you enjoy them!
